Pavilion VIII and the Baths of Diocletian

Pavilion VIII
Baths of Diocletian

The design of Pavilion VIII’s Corinthian column capitals came from Chambray’s depiction of the Corinthian order found at the Baths of Diocletian in Parallèlle de l'architecture antique avec la moderne. According to Jefferson’s specification book, the design for the building itself came from Benjamin Henry Latrobe, an architect that he worked closely with during his presidency. As was typical of Jefferson, the entablature ornament depicted in Chambray’s engraving is quite toned down for Pavilion VIII.
