Plat of land (Martin Dawson), 1850 March 13, Accession # RG-5/3/1.001, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. from Special Collections: The annexed is a plot of 538 1/8 acres of land...bequeathed by Martin Dawson (deceased) to the University of Virginia. Surveyed by order of Col. Kemper the proctor of said University. Martin Dawson, Albemarle County, Va. commission merchant, realtor, and philanthropist, willed land to the University of Virginia, manumitted his slaves, and provided funds for free public education in the counties of Albemarle and Nelson.
