  • September 25, 1822: "To John Douglass for hire of John this present year - $65.00."
  • November 26, 1822: "Bills Payable for the Proctor's bonds for the hire of Negroes To John Douglass for the hire of John $65."
  • February 24, 1823: "To Douglass for the hire of John Edwards," at $70.00 for one year.
  • February 27, 1823: "Sundries draft to A. S. Brockenbrough (P43627) for this sum to Douglass for hire of John Ed. $60.00."
  • January 1, 1824: "Paid John Douglass for hire of John Edward $60.00."
  • January 4, 1825: "Labour acct. draft to Bills Payable to John Douglass for hire of John Ed. $60.00"
  • January 8, 1826: "Sundries with Bills Payable Labour acct. draft of J. Douglass John Edw. $.50 Bonded."
  • January 1, 1827: "[Memorandum] Labour acct. draft Bills Payable for hire of the following labourers this year - John Edward of J. Douglass $50.00"
