Cain (P48259) and his wife, Alice Wood Hawkins (P48671), are listed in the J. F. Bell Funeral Home database: Cain Hawkins, born August 9, 1862 in Millington, Virginia to parents Frank and Elizabeth Hawkins (mother's maiden name Wheeler); died February 4, 1939 in Charlottesville, Virginia and buried at White Hall.

The entry for Alice states: Alice Wood Hawkins, born September 1, 1867 in Albemarle City, Virginia to parents B. F. and Cinthia Wood (mother's maiden name Speck); died December 29, 1948 in Charlottesville, Virginia and buried at White Hall and buried at White Hall.

"Photo is: Cain Hawkins & Alice Wood Hawkins. Cain's parents are Frank Hawkins and Elizabeth (enslaved) Harris or Wheeler [both surnames seen in documents].

[location]: [M]illington by Whitehall, Whitehall / Brown's Gap.

Cain's sister, Texie Mae Hawkins married Hugh Carr of union Ridge - River View Farm (now Ivy Creek Natural Area). 

Hugh & Texie Mae have 6 children, the eldest Mary Carr Greer for whom Greer Elementary School (Charlottesville) is named. The Carrs and 2nd gen. Greers would visit Whitehall regularly for family visits. Cain & Texie Mae were very close. Cain & Alice had 13 children.

Frank & Elizabeth had 7 children:
- Cain (in Holsinger photo), Charlotte, Texie Mae, Leslie, Willie Ann, Elizabeth (called Aunt Frankie) & Emma Louisa (youngest)

Emma Louisa (youngest) married Bezeal ("Bee") White. Bee White's brother, John Flournoy White married Sarah Lewis and had 5 children, the oldest of whom was Randolph White of the Tribune. 

Marcha Howard (living) (Union Zion Church, Charlottesville) is Emma & Bee's great-great-granddaughter."

Additional Information about Cain and the Hawkins family:
Cain was born into slavery (his mother Elizabeth Wheeler Hawkins owned by the Gillums in Millington, off Garth Road, then sold to the Harrises). 

Texie Mae Hawkins (Cain's sister) was the second wife of Hugh Carr; they had 6 daughters and 1 son (Mary Louise, Fannie, Emma, Peachie, Hazel, Virginia, and Marshall). All attended the Union Ridge Graded School ("The Life & Legacy of Hugh Carr").
